A challenge in humidifying a gravure printing space<\/h3>\n<p>Though they knew that humidification should help prevent static electricity from being generated, the challenge was that, at a gravure printing factory, humidifying a large space and keeping adequate humidity level across the entire space was extremely hard, because local ventilation systems there continuously exhaust a large volume of indoor air including evaporated organic solvents, while simultaneously taking in the same volume of dry outdoor air.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dry-fog.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/insatu-aa-gravure20220714-article-03.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30b0\u30e9\u30d3\u30a2\u5370\u5237\u3000\u5370\u5237\u3000\u52a0\u6e7f\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3540\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"section-title\" id=\"link_3\">3. Spot humidification: an effective humidification approach with Dry Fog<\/h3>\n<p>What IKEUCHI proposed to address this challenge was the \u201cspot humidification\u201d approach by spraying non-wetting Dry Fog* directly towards the ink pans, the source of ignition, from a close distance to effectively increase local humidity just around the pans.<\/p>\n<p>*A fog consisting of very fine water droplets produced with specialized spray nozzles, with a mean diameter of 10 \u03bcm or less, rebounds from an object it hits and instantly evaporates into air without bursting and adhering to the object.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dry-fog.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/insatu-aa-gravure20220714-article-04.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30b0\u30e9\u30d3\u30a2\u5370\u5237\u3000\u5370\u5237\u3000\u52a0\u6e7f\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3541\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dry-fog.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/insatu-aa-gravure20220714-article-05.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30b0\u30e9\u30d3\u30a2\u5370\u5237\u3000\u5370\u5237\u3000\u52a0\u6e7f\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3542\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"section-title\" id=\"link_4\">4. Mitigating a risk of fire and ensuring workers\u2019 safety<\/h3>\n<p>In considering the installation of the spot humidification with Dry Fog Humidifier, the factory manager requested us to conduct demonstration of the system in the presence of the firefighters in order to ease the fire department\u2019s concerns. It was set up with two nozzles towards the ink pan, and the increase in humidity and reduction of static electricity were measured.<\/p>\n<p>As the relative humidity increased from 35% to 50%, the electrostatic charge decreased from 20 kV to 4 kV, or 1\/5 of its previous value.
