Cool Fog Technology for People—From Tourist Attractions to Harsh Industrial Workplaces | Newsletter Vol. 24

This summer at Matsue Castle—one of Japan’s few remaining castles with its original keep (Tenshu) still intact—visitors can witness a surreal scene.
Every hour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., clouds of ultra-fine mist roll in, turning the landmark into a floating castle in the sky—like a Japanese version of Laputa. After sunset, a special nighttime show (admission required) enhances the illusion with dramatic lighting and effects.

Not Just a Spectacle
This dreamlike fog isn’t just for show—the core nozzle was originally developed to boost gas turbine output by cooling their inlet air with large volumes of fine mist during the power shortages that followed the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

Today, as global temperatures rise, our fogging technology is finding new value in protecting workers from extreme heat in industrial environments.

In explosion-proof zones—where traditional fans and spot coolers can’t be used—how can workers stay safe from the extreme heat?

How Semi-Dry Fog Cools

The system reduces ambient temperatures using the heat of vaporization, without generating exhaust heat—and it operates with minimal energy consumption.
It produces an ultra-fine mist called Semi-Dry Fog, with a mean droplet diameter of 10 to 30 µm. This fog evaporates instantly upon contact, delivering a cooling effect without wetting surfaces.

👉 What is Semi-Dry Fog?

We’re honored that our technology is helping ease the burden of extreme heat for frontline workers—and even more proud to hear our customers hope such solutions will become standard across the industry.
